A study in France that found a link between sildenafil and heart failure is out today (March 29).
The French researchers, led by Dr. Jége Renaud, a heart specialist, found that sildenafil is an extremely dangerous drug for people with heart failure, especially in those who had already suffered a heart attack in the past, according to a press release from France’s National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM).
Sildenafil is the most-used drug of the class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. These drugs are used to treat erectile dysfunction in men, or erectile dysfunction in men, and are prescribed to men suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Researchers are currently trying to learn more about the link between sildenafil and heart failure in French patients.
They found that sildenafil was significantly higher in patients with heart failure, but this was in general the same for patients with PAH. But in a new study, Dr. Renaud published in the July 17 issue of the French Journal of Clinical Endocrinology, sildenafil was found to be significantly higher in patients with heart failure.
“We have found that patients with heart failure are more likely to have heart failure,” Dr. Renaud said in the press release. “Sildenafil is very much a drug for people with heart failure. It’s a medication for people who don’t respond well to other medications. It’s an extremely dangerous drug.”
“Heart failure is a very complex disease,” Dr. Renaud said. “We have identified one study, and we’re trying to understand it better, and I don’t think you can take it if you don’t have heart failure,” he added.
However, it’s important to note that the heart failure and PAH patients who took sildenafil are at risk for some of the adverse effects of sildenafil, including cardiac arrest, which is an emergency. Heart failure and heart failure are the leading causes of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The researchers found that sildenafil was significantly higher in patients with heart failure, but that it was also in general the same for patients with PAH.
Dr. Renaud was not surprised by the findings of the French researchers, who found that the drug was associated with a higher risk of cardiac arrest, which is an emergency.
He said, “This is a study of patients that were treated with a very high dose of sildenafil (50 milligrams) in a single day, and it showed a higher risk of cardiac arrest.”
He noted that the study was not designed to be used as a long-term study, but it was conducted because the French researchers were concerned about the study results.
In his press release, Dr. Renaud also expressed his support for the study’s findings.
“We don’t think that there’s anything wrong in this study because it was an observational study. It was done in a very open environment,” he said.
“It was based on observational data. It looked at the patients’ medical history, which is one of the things I’ve seen. And if you have a history of heart failure, you might not get any warning of an increased risk of heart failure,” he added. “The authors of this study were concerned about these patients being underrepresented in clinical trials because they are not known to have a good general knowledge of their risk factors.”
Renaud said that he’s also concerned about the study findings because the study authors are not aware of any data on cardiovascular events in patients who were taking sildenafil, and are therefore not being able to tell us whether this study is valid.
“This is a study that has not been done to be used as a long-term study, but it’s important that patients are given a drug that is safe and effective to use and that has been used for a long time,” he added.
I took a couple of these for my gyno on Saturday and the first thing I noticed was that my gyno was still sore but I didn't stop. I had a couple of my old ones back then and it was like I was on a rollercoaster. Then I started taking these for my gyno. Then I stopped. I also have a few meds in my room that I didn't take for the first few months. My gyno is still sore, but it's been better for me. I have some new meds in my room and the new ones are coming in next week. My gyno is back up and I can't keep them. I just don't want them back to be the same as when I was on them. I'm still on the meds but I haven't changed the dosage or the dose for the months since the last time I tried. It's been 2 months now and I'm not sure what to do. I am hoping I'll get better at this and see how I go in the future. If not I may just be able to get back on the meds. I will give my gyno one more month to come back to the same dose. Thank you
Cory/I am still in the early stages of what is expected to be a long time. I have been trying to get a prescription for a new script, but have had no luck getting it done. I had been on the drugs for 3 months, but only went off them a couple times and have had to change the dose. The first time I was on these was for the first 2 weeks, but after that, the second time I went off them, I stopped. I was on two of these drugs at the time. The first two, which were taken in the early morning, were the first time I ever tried to take them. My gyno is still sore and I was on them all the time. I am also on two meds that were taken in the middle of the day. The first med was Cialis, which was on the second week and the second was Tadalafil. I was on them all the time. They both were the most effective meds and were the best drugs that I've tried. They helped me to have better control of my gyno. They also helped with the side effects of my heart medication (tachycardia, angina, heartburn). It's important that I don't take these for a long time. My gyno is back up, but I still can't keep them. My gyno is still sore, but I don't stop. My gyno is still in the early stages of healing, but I still can't keep it. I'm still taking my meds, but it's been working really well. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
